NIWOT, Colo., Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ — The Semiconductor Test Consortium, Inc. (STC), the leading proponent of worldwide adoption of Open Architecture, today announced that FormFactor, Inc. (Nasdaq: FORM – News) of Livermore, Calif. has joined the consortium. The welcome addition of the leader in advanced wafer probe cards marks yet another milestone for the STC, as it continues to expand its scope to encompass more of the entire test process — delivering further benefits for the global semiconductor industry.

“FormFactor is very pleased to join the STC and looks forward to supporting the membership and industry standards on a worldwide basis,” said Sergio Perez, vice president of SOC Marketing at FormFactor. “The time is optimum for us to join their efforts. As the largest and most advanced manufacturer of wafer probe cards, we have synergistic goals to reduce the high cost of testing and provide the capability needed to test high performance advanced semiconductor devices.”

Intel Corporation Engineering Manager and STC Chairman Don Edenfeld added “FormFactor’s membership is another indication that there is great interest and need to expand the consortium to encompass the entire test process. By broadening our scope we are better able to attract a more diverse membership of leading providers to the semiconductor industry.”

“We look forward to FormFactor’s inputs and active participation in driving new standards in our expanded technical working groups,” said Klaus Luther, Infineon Technologies Vice President Test Technology Communication Solutions and STC co-vice chairman. “Their global presence and technical expertise will help drive critical industry standards that will ultimately provide cost effective solutions for everyone’s benefit.”

In conjunction with exhibiting at Semicon Japan December 6-8, the STC will hold a general meeting on December 7th, followed by the annual dinner meeting.

About the Semiconductor Test Consortium

The Semiconductor Test Consortium was founded in 2003 to develop a common test architecture that is completely open, documented and supported via solutions available from all ATE vendors. Open to all companies throughout the semiconductor supply chain with a vested interest in the test sector, the consortium is focused on the following goals: formalizing a broadened STC scope with new working groups and specification structure; fostering pre- competitive collaboration among industry participants toward development of value-added standards; emphasizing new initiatives, the value of work being accomplished and the contributions to the industry; and continuing STC efforts to fully enable the OPENSTAR® Ecosystem. Today, 44 semiconductor, equipment and instrumentation companies worldwide and 38 universities in Europe, Japan, China and the United States, in addition to eight STIL users and three individuals support the STC.
