A Great Idea to Help Remote Learners Thrive at McKay Elementary SchoolThis is a great story worth sharing during COVID-19!

Ryan Garrison – a Senior Program Manager for FormFactor – is an active member of the Parent Teacher Club (PTC) of McKay Elementary School in Beaverton, Oregon. He, and his fellow PTC members, witnessed many virtual Zoom classes this past spring in which it was clear that quite a few students didn’t have a dedicated place to attend classes. There were couches, beds, kitchen tables, the floor… you name it, they saw it. This sparked an idea from one of the PTC parents and the idea for a sturdy cardboard desk was hatched.

Ryan was able to find a local box company to help create a practical, personal, and durable desk. They tested the prototype and ran the numbers, and now they are looking to raise a total of $15,000 – enough to purchase 350 desks and give one to every student at McKay.

To kick off their campaign, FormFactor recently contributed $1500 toward their goal.

They designed them with kids in mind—strong, spaces to decorate, and sized just for them. They have perfected the prototype, secured manufacturing, and are now raising funds to put the desks in production and into the homes of students!
